PHYTOREMEDITATION STORMWATER FACILITY | Portland OR

Ecotone and Sunmark Environmental teamed up to propose an innovative solution to significantly reduce or eliminate heavy metals and TSS's from entering the stormwater system. The strategy was to redirect all stormwater from 2.54 acres, into a vegetated swale with a main emphasis on the loading dock which was highly concentrated with heavy metals due to importing and exporting of raw materials. The vegetated swale that was designed to accommodate a 24-hour, 100 year storm event and was designed to have two stormwater treatments. The primary treatment is native vegetation carefully selected for having natural traits of absorbing heavy metals and TSS's, ultimately providing phytoremediation for pre-treatment.
