NESIKA ILLAHEE APARTMENTS | Portland OR
This ground up new construction affordable housing project was developed in unison by NAYA and Community Development Partners in efforts to provide 59 units of affordable housing for indigenous peoples living in the Portland Oregon area.
The project included indigenous art in both the architecture and the landscape architectural elements. The building included a mural and the landscape includes a radial patio with radial scoring resembling a dreamweaver. Custom radial benches provide seating throughout the courtyard and artwork, which includes indigenous carvings, is found along the street frontage.
A community garden with seating was also provided.
The landscape was inspired by plant species chosen by DELA and members of NAYA in order to provide plants that offer medicinal value as well as replicate landscapes along the Columbia Gorge.
