This contemporary three level home in the West Hills is built on a steep hillside. Both the lower level and the upper level had small yards so the design goal was to be creative with the existing space while making the yards more useable for the owners and their children.

The front yard was designed with adult entertainment in mind and includes a deck extension off of the existing side yard deck creating a larger entertainment area there, Shou Sugi Ban style fencing matches the siding of the home and large format pavers lead to both the existing home and to a sunken firepit with built in cedar bench and platform decking.

The backyard was expanded to include a large central lawn, fenced edible garden, a childrens playhouse with a log and plank boardwalk which creates a loop through nature, and a gentle sloping gravel pathway to connect to the road below the property.
